Upgrade Time EXIR 3MP to 4MP

Postby malford » Sun Apr 30, 2017 10:34 pm

Hello Adam, I'm looking at upgrading my current 3MP DS-2CD2232-I5 cameras to the new 4MP DS-2CD2T42WDi8.
I'm particularly interested in the EXIR capability as our streetlights turn off at midnight , What advantage will I get from doing the upgrade?

Well of course you will get up to 80m if IR power now over 50m as well as the increased resolution :D

Can you tell me how to get the DS-2CD2T42WD i8 to work at 30fps?
I have it set at 1080p and selected "Full Frame" in camera settings yet the picture is "stop start" motion compared to my older DS-2CD2232 i5 which displays live view perfectly.
I have upgraded to the latest firmware version V5.4.5 170124

The display monitor I'm using via HDMI is a Panasonic TX-P65VT65 plasma running at 60Hz.

DS-2CDST42WDi8 specs
50Hz: 20fps (2688×1520), 25fps(1920×1080), 25fps(1280×720) 60Hz: 20fps (2688×1520), 30fps (1920×1080), 30fps(1280×720)

DS-2CD2232 i5 specs
50Hz: 20fps (2048 × 1536), 25fps (1920 × 1080), 25fps (1280 × 720)
60Hz: 20fps (2048 × 1536), 30fps (1920 × 1080), 30fps (1280 × 720)

Apart from the frame rate issue the night vision has improved and the newer 4MP version displays a colour picture for up to 45 minutes longer than the 3MP EXIR version.

::: Update ::
Have been using the Updated 4MP EXIR bullets for several weeks now and after studying recorded footage and photo stills I have to say the older 3MP EXIR trumps it on quality in daytime footage. I have side by side footage of both cameras and as much as I want to believe the new model is better it doesn't seem so. The camera looking down the cul de sac is used to record car number plates but at 100% crop the image is more pixelated than the older model it replaced.

Both 3MP & 4MP EXIR Settings are exactly the same listed below.

Resolution 1920x1080
Bitrate: Variable
Video Quality: Highest
Frame Rate: Full Frame
Max Bitrate Mode: General
Max Bitrate KBPS: 4096
Video Encoding: H.264
