Why can’t I hear audio on my phone using Hik-Connect, but I can hear it on the recorder?

Hello everyone,

I can hear audio when viewing the camera directly on my recorder and through a web browser, but I don’t get any audio when using the Hik-Connect app on my phone. What could be causing this?

If audio is working on the recorder and via web browser, the issue is typically related to app settings within the Hik-Connect.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Hik-Connect app.
  2. Select the camera and switch to full-screen Live View.
  3. Confirm the stream type is set to HD (Main Stream) — audio is commonly available only on the main stream.
  4. Make sure the speaker icon is enabled (not muted).
  5. Increase the volume both within the app and on your mobile device, as the in-app volume may be set very low.
If audio still does not play, also verify that:

  • Audio is enabled in the camera’s encoding settings.
  • The camera model supports audio input/output.
In most cases, switching to HD stream and enabling the speaker icon resolves the issue.
