Is it possible to edit or correct the date and time displayed on video that has already been recorded on a Hikvision NVR?

Hi all,

I have a Hikvision NVR where the system time was set incorrectly, and some footage has already been recorded with the wrong date and time displayed on the video.

For example, the recorder was showing 05/02/2026 14:30 when the actual date and time should have been 09/02/2026 14:30. The footage has already been saved to the HDD.

Is it possible to edit or correct the date and time (OSD timestamp) on video that has already been recorded on a Hikvision NVR?

Thanks in advance.

Dear member,
You cannot modify the date and time (OSD – On-Screen Display) on footage that has already been recorded.
Once video has been written to the hard drive, the timestamp becomes part of the recorded data and cannot be altered through the NVR interface. This is by design to preserve recording integrity and evidential reliability.
Important Considerations
Always ensure the recorder’s system time, time zone, and NTP settings are correctly configured before enabling recording. If the time was incorrect during recording, the footage will permanently display the wrong timestamp.
Correct the system time immediately to prevent further recordings from having inaccurate date/time information.
Maintaining accurate time settings is critical, especially in systems used for evidential or compliance purposes.
