What Port Forwards Are Required for Direct IP Remote Access?

Hello everyone,

If I want to access my recorder remotely using direct public IP (not via Hik-Connect), what ports need to be forwarded on my router?
Thanks.

Dear member,

For direct IP remote access (port forwarding method), the required ports depend on how you intend to connect to the device.

For Web Browser Access

You will need to forward:

  • HTTP Port
    • Default: 80
    • This value can be customized in the device network settings.
If HTTPS is enabled, you may also need to forward the HTTPS port (default 443, if configured).

For Mobile App or Client Software

If accessing via:

  • iVMS-4200
  • Direct IP setup in the Hik-Connect (manual mode)
You will need to forward:

  • Server Port
    • Default: 8000
    • Used for device communication and login.
    • Default: 554 or sometimes 10554
    • Used for video streaming.

Important Configuration Notes:

  • The ports must be forwarded in your router to the local IP address of the NVR/DVR or camera.
  • Ensure the device has a static IP address on the local network to prevent forwarding issues later.
  • After configuring port forwarding, test access using your public IP address from an external network (not from inside your LAN).

Important Disclaimer:

Port forwarding configuration must be completed by the local IT administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP). Hikvision technical support can only advise which ports are required; they do not configure third-party networking equipment.

Additionally, exposing devices directly to the internet carries security risks. If possible, using a secure VPN solution or the Hik-Connect P2P service is generally recommended.
