Why Do My Cameras Time Out After 5 Minutes on Hik-Connect?

Hello everyone,

When I’m viewing my cameras through Hik-Connect, the live view disconnects after about 5 minutes. Why does this happen? Thanks.

This is an intentional design limitation when using the Hik-Connect via the P2P (Platform Access) service.

The 5-minute timeout is implemented to help reduce bandwidth consumption, particularly over cellular/mobile data connections, and to maintain platform stability.

If you require longer continuous Live View:​

You will need to add your device using the IP/Domain (direct connection) method instead of the Hik-Connect P2P service. This involves:

• Configuring port forwarding on your router
• Adding the device manually using its public IP address or DDNS
• Connecting through the IP/Domain option within the app

Please note that direct IP access requires proper network configuration and carries additional security considerations.
